Seating and fold mechanisms
Furniture is one of the industries we serve. In our unit that means torsion springs on a fold or a ratchet, extension springs on a return, and the odd compression spring or wire-form clip. It does not mean zig-zag sofa springs or anything above 2.50 mm wire.
The spring is often visible, or it sits just under a cover, so finish and rust matter. Hard-drawn wire with a partner-applied finish is common. Stainless if the piece will live in a damp room.
What the drawing must say
For a torsion spring: wire, coil diameter, free angle, working angle, torque if you have it, both leg shapes, and wind direction. For an extension spring: wire, OD, length inside hooks, hook type, and a load at one working length.
If you have only the old spring, send an unused one. A furniture spring that has sat loaded for years has often taken set.
Limits
