HSN code and GST for springs

The code buyers put on the purchase order, and the tax rate that usually sits next to it. This is a reading of public tariff pages, not advice from our CA.

The codes

HSN 7320 covers springs of iron or steel. 7320 20 covers helical springs — the compression, extension and torsion springs that leave our unit. Stainless springs of iron or steel still sit in this family; they are not a separate “SS spring” heading.

We invoice as RK Enterprises, GSTIN 27BDSPK0577Q1ZL. The HSN we print on a given invoice follows the part.

GST rate

Public guides for HSN 7320 list GST at 18%. Treat that as the usual rate, not a promise for every part or every year. A concessional or different rate can apply if the classification changes.

Wire forms

A clip, hook or pin that is not a helix may be classified as an article of iron or steel under HSN 7326, not 7320. That is uncertain. Do not copy the spring code onto a wire form without asking your CA.

Questions

What is the HSN code for a compression spring?
Helical springs of iron or steel are commonly classified under HSN 7320 20. GST is commonly 18%. Confirm the code for your part with your CA.
Is a wire form the same HSN?
Not always. A clip or pin that is not a helix may sit under 7326 (articles of iron or steel) rather than 7320. Flag that uncertainty on the PO.
